SHINE OUT!

Yosef (Joseph) is this week’s WOW (Word of the Week). The Scripture contains God’s message for us. The appeal is addressed to the Shepherd of Israel, a title of God which appeared in Jacob’s blessing of Joseph—”the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel” (B’resheet [Genesis] 49:24). It was He who led Joseph like a flock from Egypt to Canaan. It was He who in the glory cloud was enthroned between the k’ruvim who overshadowed the mercy seat in the Most Holy Place. So now listen to the entreaty of the prayer in Tehillim (Psalms) 80. It begins with:

“Shepherd of Isra’el, listen!”

Hear the cry of the one who prays. God is being called upon. He is being identified … The Shepherd of Isra’el. And the identification continues:

“You who lead Yosef like a flock, You whose throne is on the k’ruvim.”

Immediately we know to whom the prayer has been directed. Then the cry of the petitioner’s heart …

“Shine out! Before Efrayim, Binyamin and M’nasheh, rouse Your power; and come to save us. God, restore us! Make Your face shine, and we will be saved!”

What work of mercy and restoration do you need today at your most personal level? Do you need Adonai to turn your heart more fully upon Him? Do you need restoration for your family? Spiritual healing? Physical healing? Finances? Whatever your need is, cry out to the Shepherd of Israel. He will listen. He will answer.

“Then we won’t turn away from you – if You revive us, we will call on Your name. Adonai, God of armies, restore us! Make Your face shine, and we will be saved.”
