TEN REASONS WHY

BELIEVERS SHOULD SUPPORT THE NATION OF ISRAEL

Adapted from an excerpt from Hope for Today, David Hockings Newsletter for August 2007.
Scriptures quoted from The Complete Jewish Bible by Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc.

It is amazing how few “Christians” read the Bible’s account and teachings concerning the Nation of Israel. Here are ten reasons that are crucial to the argument and belief that those who claim belief in the Bible and the Messiah of Israel should support the Nation of Israel:

1. BECAUSE ISRAEL IS THE MOST FREQUENTLY-MENTIONED SUBJECT IN THE BIBLE NEXT TO THE LORD HIMSELF!

It is amazing how few “Christians” read the Bible’s account and teachings concerning the Nation of Israel. The word “Israel” appears 2566 times in the Bible!

2. BECAUSE GOD HAS CHOSEN ISRAEL OUT OF ALL NATIONS!

Many do not like this fact, but make sure you understand it before you criticize it!  Deuteronomy 7:6 states very clearly: “For you are a people set apart as holy for Adonai your God. Adonai your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His own unique treasure.” (Additional teaching on this subject can be found in Isaiah 41:8; 43:1; 44:1; 45:4; 48:10)

3. BECAUSE GOD HAS IDENTIFIED HIMSELF WITH ISRAEL!

The Bible refers to the “LORD God of Israel” 108 times; to the words “the God of Israel” 203 times; to the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” 31 times (25 in Isaiah alone!). The Bible never identifies God with any other nation except Israel!

4. BECAUSE GOD HAS A SPECIAL LOVE FOR ISRAEL!

Deuteronomy 7:8 speaks about the chosen nation of Israel and says, “because Adonai loved you.” Isaiah 63:7 says “I will recall the grace of Adonai and the praises of Adonai, because of all that Adonai has granted us and His great goodness toward the house of Isra’el, which He bestowed on them in keeping with His mercy, in keeping with the greatness of his grace.” In a classic passage of God’s love for Israel in Jeremiah 31:1-3 we read: “When that time comes,” says Adonai, “I will be God of all the clans of Isra’el, and they will be My people.” Here is what Adonai says: “The people escaping the sword found favor in the desert — I have brought Isra’el to its rest.” From a distance Adonai appeared to me, [saying,] “I love you with an everlasting love; this is why in My grace I draw you to Me.” Make no mistake about it – God has a special love for Israel!

5. BECAUSE GOD HAS GIVEN HER LAND THAT HE CALLS HIS OWN LAND!

With all the political arguments about the Land of Israel, it is often ignored, forgotten, or purposely denied, that the LORD GOD of Israel has given to the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, a special land, whose dimensions were laid out in Genesis 15:18 and a land that God call His own in Leviticus 25:2, 23. Genesis 17:7-8 speaks of this gift of land as an “everlasting covenant” and that it includes “all the land of Kena’an (Canaan).” It is reemphasized in Psalm 105:8-11 at the time of King David – over 1000 years after Abraham!

6. BECAUSE GOD WILL NEVER FORSAKE ISRAEL!

This clear promise of God is NOT dependent upon their performance. It is based clearly on the immutability of His promise — He will be faithful to them even though they are unfaithful to Him! Passages include Isaiah 41:17; 49:13-16; 54:5-8; 60:15-16; 62:11-12; Psalm 89:30-37; Leviticus 26:44; Jeremiah 31:3-37 — and even Romans 11:1-2 from the teaching of Rabbi Sha’ul!

7. BECAUSE GOD WILL DESTROY ALL NATIONS WHO ATTACK ISRAEL!

If there was ever a reason why the nations of the world should support Israel this is it! Read carefully what God says in Isaiah 41:11-12, 63:1-6; 66:15-16; Zechariah 12:9; 14:3 and Revelation 19:11-21. The Battle of Har Megiddo (Armageddon), the final battle of human history as we now know it, will bring the Messiah of Israel to destroy all the nations of the world that have gathered to attack Israel.

8. BECAUSE GOD WILL RESTORE ISRAEL TO HER PROMISED LAND!

God is not through with Israel! Consider the words of Deuteronomy 30:3-10; Isaiah 35:10; 43:5-7; 51:11; Jeremiah 30:1-2; Ezekiel 36:24, 28; 37:13-14; Amos 9:13-14! The Jewish people will return to the land in the end times and become a nation in one day (May 14, 1948) and retake the old city of Jerusalem (June, 1967), experience spectacular agricultural development (trees, fruit, flowers, etc.) and be hated and pressured by all nations of the world. God is fulfilling His Word, and nothing we say or do will stop it!

9. BECAUSE GOD WILL COME AND DWELL IN THE MIDST OF ISRAEL!

One of the unique passages about the end times is found in the visions of the future that Zechariah the prophet gave us — Zechariah 2:10-12: “Sing, daughter of Tziyon; rejoice! For, here, I am coming; and I will live among you,” says Adonai.  When that time comes, many nations will join themselves to Adonai. “They will be My people, and I will live among you.” Then you will know that it was Adonai-Tzva’ot who sent Me to you.  Adonai will take possession of Y’hudah as His portion in the holy land, and He will again make Yerushalayim His choice.

AND THE TENTH AND FINAL REASON WE SHOULD SUPPORT ISRAEL?

10. BECAUSE GOD WILL BRING SALVATION TO THE WHOLE WORLD THROUGH THE MESSIAH OF ISRAEL!

The passages are numerous (Isaiah 11:1-10; 42:1,6; 43:11,25; 44:21,22; 45:17, 22-23; 49:5-16; 52:10; 53:1-6; 59:2-20; 60:3; 61:1-3,10; 62:1,11; Jeremiah 23:5-6, and finally Romans 11:25-27! Yeshua said that salvation is “of the Jews.” It is important to know that the Christian faith and belief is rooted in the promises of God given to the Nation of Israel. Christianity is not a pagan religion nor did its original ideas come from the idolatrous belief of past empires! Christianity is based on Jewish roots and the promises of God to Israel!
