WHY MESSIANIC DANCE TODAY?

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 31:1-4 speaks of the people of Israel returning to their Land and to their God!

“When that time comes,” says Adonai, “I will be God of all the clans of Isra’el, and they will be my people.” Here is what Adonai says: “The people escaping the sword found favor in the desert — I have brought Isra’el to its rest.” From a distance Adonai appeared to me, [saying,] “I love you with an everlasting love; this is why in my grace I draw you to me. Once again, I will build you; you will be rebuilt, virgin of Isra’el. Once again, equipped with your tambourines, you will go out and dance with the merrymakers.”

And continuing in this same chapter 31:10-13, we see:

“Nations, hear the word of Adonai! Proclaim it in the coastlands far away. Say: “He who scattered Isra’el is gathering him, guarding him like a shepherd his flock.” For Adonai has ransomed Ya`akov, redeemed him from hands too strong for him. They will come and sing on the heights of Tziyon, streaming to the goodness of Adonai, to the grain, the wine, the olive oil, and the young of the flock and the herd. They themselves will be like a well-watered garden, never to languish again. “Then the virgin will dance for joy, young men and old men together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, comfort and gladden them after their sorrow.”

These are days of great hope and anticipation for the fulfillment of these things written long ago! We are privileged to be chosen to live in the exciting days that have been taught from generation to generation.

Let’s look at Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) 3:1-4:

“For everything there is a season, a right time for every intention under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…”

Dance is clearly a form of praise, a demonstration of gratitude, and evidence of God’s people being united and gathered in His honor. It was spoken of by the prophets, and is a joyful element in the restoration signs they spoke of preceding Messiah’s return! The dance was, and continues to be, a beautiful expression of worship, thanksgiving, and joy. We also understand that it serves as form of spiritual warfare.

Is dance for everyone? Probably not. Just as the Body of Messiah has many parts, all serving in their different ways and callings, this is one to gladly consider! Although not everyone is led to dance, however, at Bet Shalom we are very grateful for this present day demonstration of His constant love and joyous presence!

Rejoice!!!
